Oh my, where has the month gone? January has flown by, and it feels like it was just
January 1st yesterday. It’s been an action-packed and exciting month, with some travel
abroad, filming a new album release party for a local musician, and premiering our first
surf film in Fernandina Beach, FL. We’re incredibly grateful for all the amazing events
we’ve been a part of this month, and we’re already booking up services and events for
February, so stay tuned for all the great things happening in our neck of the woods.
To kick off the new year, Angela and I spent a week in Panama with some friends from
California. We spent our first night in Panama City, then took a short flight to Bocas Del
Toro, an archipelago on the Caribbean coast of Panama, known for its incredible surf
breaks. We stayed at the Red Frog Bungalows on Red Frog Beach, and it was an
unforgettable experience. Mornings were spent surfing (and I did quite a bit of filming),
followed by our daily latte fix with friends. Afternoons were spent at the beach or
exploring the area, and we’d wrap up the day with a surf session at the Back Yard surf
break. The dinners were five-star, prepared by the resident chef and staff. We highly
recommend Red Frog Bungalows if Panama is on your bucket list.
Our partner Aidan Marks also traveled to Puerto Rico for a long weekend to film during
one of the swells that hit the island. He captured some incredible content with his clients
and explored the area to find the best waves. If you’re looking for a traveling
photographer to capture your adventures, whether across the U.S. or abroad, Aidan and
I have extensive experience in traveling and producing premier content for any
occasion. Drop us a line to inquire about special event photography and videography
packages or trips abroad at support@southenedgestudios.com.
On January 18th, Southern Edge Studios was hired to provide photography and
videography services for the album and music video release party of local Fernandina
Beach musician Brian Ernst. Brian held his sold-out event at the Amelia Musical
Playhouse, and we recorded some incredible content that he’ll be using for future music
videos and marketing material. Brian has another sold-out event coming up on February
15th, so be sure to check out his music as he’s dropping new tracks on Spotify. If you
need professionals to capture photos or videos for your event, don’t hesitate to reach
out via email or give us a call (Office: 904.441.0982).
Lastly, I want to highlight the recent premiere of our first surf film, Local Motion: A
Fernandina Beach Surf Film. I’m proud to have led this project, handling the editing and
production, with clips from local videographers and featuring surfers from Amelia Island.
The coolest part of the film was having Gilberto ’77, a local band, perform the live score
during the premiere at Mocama Beer Company in Fernandina Beach last weekend. We
had an amazing turnout, and the venue reported the highest sales and biggest
attendance for any event since they opened. We’ll be releasing the film soon for public viewing, once North Florida Recordings finishes the live recording. The success of this project has inspired us to host more film premieres in the coming months at Mocama Beer Company. Stay Tuned!
Along with the new surf film that was released, we also released new t-shirts and
Brophy from San Clemente, CA. The new art is radical and we are stoked to be able to
have had Drew complete this original piece for Southern Edge Studios.
January was a blur with all the amazing events and travel, but we’re incredibly grateful
to have kicked off the year on such a high note. February is shaping up to be another
busy month, so stay tuned for updates on our social media pages. Thank you for
following and supporting our growing media business.
